REHABILITATION WORK.

To provide certain equipment for the Departments of anatomy, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Mathematics, Pathology, and Physics, which the University was unable to face from the funds available for post-war rehabilitation.

To provide back-numbers of certain journals for the Departments of Chemistry and Mathematics, essential for reference and research, for which there were insufficient funds available from the University's rehabilitation vote; and to provide a working Library for the newly-formed Department of Architecture.

To effect a number of essential repairs to

University paths, and stormwater drains, to resurface University roads, and to re-instate path-lighting throughout the University Estate; all of which fell into disrepair during the Second World War and for none of which was money available from the University's rehabilitation vote.

Division of Costs:

Cost of provision of such equipment, etc., is to be divided equally between funds allocated under C.D. & W., and C. & 1.E.S. votes, as detailed in the tel. 1900 of 1950 from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the Governor Hong Kong.

Administrative & Financial Control:

The University of Hong Kong has been recognized as an administering authority for the purpose of administrative and financial control of monies allocated from the C.D. & W. fund. Secretary of State tel. 1900 of

Dec. 22, 1950, refers.

Availability of Hen & Materials:

Local labour and materials are available for all minor rehabilitation work.

Execution & Technical Supervision:

A qualified Inspector of Works is on the University staff for supervision of minor rehabilitation work.

Basis of Application:

This application is based on a report, I.U.C./E.18/50, of two representatives of the Inter- University Council for Higher Education in the Colonies as a consequence of a Visitation in April, 1950. The report was adopted by the Inter-University Council for Higher Education in the Colonies.
