The past poverty of the University and the damage it sustained during the war are fully emphasized in the Visiting Committee's report. An indication of the immense importance attached to the University alike by the Hong Kong Government and the people of Hong Kong may be found in the generous assistance given to the University since the war both by the Hong Kong Government and by private support.

The Visiting Committee has had the opportunity of discussing the needs of the University on the spot with the Vice-Chancellor and with the Governor of Hong Kong, and of framing its recommendations with a full and detailed knowledge of the problems with which the University is confronted. The Colonial Advisory Committee will feel able to endorse the recommendations of the report generally and to recommend a grant of £250,000 to the University from the Colonial Development and Welfare Higher Education allocation funds.
