Sir,

I am directed to inform you that a request was received last month from the Royal Air Force authorities in the Far East for covering approval to the appointment of Flight Lieutenant L.S. LAUGHTON (119209) as Honorary Aide-de-Camp to His Excellency, the Governor of Hong Kong. The officer has apparently held this appointment since June, 1950, and the appointment is approved by this Department on the understanding that the duties appertaining to it are part-time only and in no way interfere with or restrict the officer's normal Royal Air Force duties.

2.

Appointments of Royal Air Force officers as Aides-de- Camp are generally made on condition that no cost falls, in consequence, on Royal Air Force funds and this condition would apply to the present one.

3. I am to ask whether your department is prepared to approve the appointment of Flight Lieutenant Laughton under the conditions set out above.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,
