accept payment in this way. No student shall be allowed to

attend school who has not paid all arrears of fees due. 35.

Principals shall notify the Director of Education of all fees and subscriptions charged in their schools in accordance with Part V of the Regulations made under the Education Ordinance.

The ordinary school tuition fees to be charged in a grant school shall be determined by the Manager or Committee of Management but they may not be less than those charged for similar classes in Government schools. For the purpose of assessing the grant, not more than 10% of the total fees payable at full rates may be allowed as remission of fees.

37. (i) If their other sources of income are insufficient, schools may be allowed to charge school subscriptions to meet the school's share of the cost of new equipment and buildings and the expenses of school medical inspection, sports, libraries, and other educational needs. The subscription to be charged shall be at the discretion of the Manager or approved Committee of Management, and shall not be offset against annual recurrent expenditure. This subscription, the tuition fee, and their sum, the inclusive fee, shall be published in the gazette.

(ii) Government shall have power to reduce the grant, if in the opinion of its financial officers the subscriptions charged by a Grant School are too high.

(iii) Without the permission of the Director of Education, subscriptions shall not be used for any purpose which would increase the recurrent grant above the figure for the 1st of April, 1949.

Auditing of

accounts.

ACCOUNTS.

38.

As soon as possible after the end of the financial year, the manager or correspondent shall send to the Director of Education audited accounts of all income and expenditure in respect of grants-in-aid and subscriptions.

Procedure to be

followed to reduce

WITHDRAWAL OR REDUCTION OF GRANTS.

39.

The Director of Education shall have power to withdraw or reduce the grant if a school, in his opinion, is inefficient or unnecessary. The procedure in such easeş shall be as follową :-
