Dear Wagstaff,
Will you please refer to your letter of 11th May under cover of which, srising out of the Hong Kong Financial Conference, you sent me for transmission to Hong Kong copies of the war office lists of stores despatched for Hong Kong in the B.M. A. period. You will recall that the Hong Kong representatives at the Financia Conference undertook with the help of these lists to try to produce more accurate accounts in respect of these stores than had hitherto been possible,
I now onclose a copy of savingram No. 1042 from Hong Kong which forwerds a memorandum on the stores supplied and also returns one copy of the Bar office lists with the stores which it has been possible to identify as certainly or probably having been received in Hong Kong mitably marked, I enclose this list in original.
It seems clear that a considerable amount of work has been put in in Hong Kong trying to sort out this "tangled skein” and that, although the details are perhaps not as comprehensive as could have been hoped for, they are the best that we can possibə expect after this lɛpse of time. We very much hope that, with th sid of this new information and in consultation with the Treasury, you will be able to produce a satisfactory and final statement of accounts in respect of these stores transactions for presentation to the public Accounts (bmmittee in due course,
