Dear Wagstaff,
I am replying to your letter of 16th August, to Hudspith in which you ask for authority to write off three sums still outstanding in War Office books in respect of loans made by the British Military Administration in Hong Kong.
We can agree that the sum of Hong Kong $299,647.54 (equivalent to £18,727 19s. 5d.) may be written off and charged to balances irrecover- able and claims abandoned. This authority is given on the assumption which you will perhaps confirm that in the case of the avance to Bailey & Company Limited (in liquidation) no assets of the Company existed from which recovery (partial or complete) of the debt could have been made.
Yours sincerely,
(sgd) ANTHONY LEONARD.
