As certified thereon, the Annual Abstract

Account, together with the Statement of Assets and

Liabilities on the 31st of March 1950, has been

examined under my direction.

The Account as rendered includes certain

errors in classification which were brought to the

notice of the Accounting Officer too late for

adjustment. Only one of these, however, affects

Revenue or Expenditure Heads or Below-the-line

accounts in the Account and is the equivalent of £50

or more in amount, namely, a sum of $305,321.26,

allocated to Expenditure Head 16

Railway, which should have been allocated to Revenue

Head 8 Kowloon Canton Railway.

The Director of Audit states that a sum of

$222,514.45 has been credited to Revenue Head 8 -

Kowloon Canton Railway, in respect of accrued revenue

for which cash had not been eceived at the end of the

year, and that this sum includes revenue amounting to

$175,271.66 which cannot be collected, and which will

need to be written off to Ex›enditure.

The Director of Audit also states that, at the

date of writing his Report, 128 Expenditure Vouchers

totalling $2,672,296.41 had not been submitted for audit.

He has brought the matter to the notice of the

Accountant General.
