SUBVENTIONS.
As a result of more recent information the Committee agrees to a reduction of $2,400 in the grant to the Imperial Institute and the elimination of the contribution of $2,400 to the Food and Agricultural Organization, South East Asia.
Arising out of the conversion of the Aberdeen Fisheries school as a Government school the subventions to vernacular schools can be reduced by $21,600. In addition a sum of $40,000 can be deducted from the provision for building grants to non-government schools as the result of a recent decision to make an interest-free loan to St. Mary's School.
The Committee recommends the payment, over a period of two years of a building grant for a school to be built in Kowloon by the Chinese Methodist Church. An additional sum of $221,000 will be required in the 1950/51 provision for building grants to non- government schools.
The net effect of these changes will result in an increase of $154,600 in expenditure on Subventions in 1950/51.
