BROADCASTING.

The Committee recommends the revision of salary scales for Announcers involving an increased provision of $7,757.

HEAD 25C TELECOMMUNICATIONS.

The Committee recommends the transfer of one Assistant Wireless Technician, one Apprentice Wireless Technician, and two Mechanicians Class II engaged on the maintenance of X-ray and other radio-medical equipment to the Medical Department. This transfer results in a reduction of $10,775 in Fersonal Emoluments.

PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICE.

The Committee recommends the purchase of a cinema van for the Public Relations Office at a cost of $40,000. This van will require a Motor Driver, a Projectionist, and a Coolie to man it with a consequent increase of $2,448 in Personal Emoluments. An additional $1,000 will also be necessary under recurrent expenditure for the upkeep of the vehicle.

The Committee also recommends an extension of the circulation of the Government bulletin at an extra cost of $10,940.

HEAD 30

PUBLIC WORKS RECURRENT,

The Committee recommends a reduction of $400,000 for the maintenance of roads and bridges in compensation for the provision of an equal amount under Public Works Non-Recurrent for the regrading of Queen's Road Central.

HEAD 31 PUBLIC WORKS NON-RECURRENT,

Consequent on the reduction of $400,000 in the provision for the maintenance of roads and bridges under Public Works Recurrent the Committee recommends that a new subhead for the regrading of Queen's Road Central should be included at a cost of $400,000.

It is noted that revised estimates for marine licensing stations and La Salle College temporary structures result in savings of $67,000 and $65,000 respectively but that a re-vote of an additional $1,395,318 is required to meet delayed and outstanding claims for compensation in respect of Kai Tak airport. It is also necessary to re-vote $10,945 for the furniture workshop.

The effect of these changes is to increase the total expenditure under Public Works Non-Recurrent by $1,674,263.

HEAD 33

REGISTRAR GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT.

The Committee agrees to the provision of $18,960 to cover the post of Senior Executive Officer Class II transferred from the Medical Department.

HEAD 35 SANITARY DEPARTMENT AND URBAN COUNCIL.

The Committee notes the restoration of the post of Senior Executive Officer Class II as the regrading of the post had not been approved. They recommend the creation of the following temporary posts required in connexion with the proposed licencing of electric signs:-

Four Overseers Three Clerks

These proposals result in an increase of $15,480 in Personal Emoluments.
