Revenue from Land Sales,etc.,
The estimate of $6,201,100 is $2,333,000
higher than the original estimate for 1949/50, and
548,900 lower than the revised estimate. Leases have been renewed at higher rentals and receipts from rents of Government quarters and furniture have increased, as more such quarters are in use. On the other hand substantial arrears for the hire of marine transport
by the Fish Marketing Organisation, which were paid during the year just onding, will not recur.
Miscellaneous Receipts.
The estimate of $7,790,000 is $2,365,210 higher than the original estimate for 1949/50, and $1,560,000
lower than the revised estimate. This head is affected by the influx of population as all receipts from royalties from transport companies are credited to it. Certain receipts, such as the repayment of a loan by the Fish Marketing Organisation, will not be repeated during the coming year, and various items previously included under this Head are in future being credited to other sub-heads.
Colonial Development and Welfare Grants.
Revenue under this Head offsets the expenditure provided for under Head 43 in respect of schemes for which grants from the Colonial Development and Welfare Fund have been approved.
Land Sales.
The estimate of $2,750,000 is $190,000 higher than the original estimate for 1949/50, and $1,987,518 lower than the revised estimate. It is anticipated that fewer sales of land will take place during 1950/51 than during the prosent year.
EXPENDITURE.
Expenditure is estimated at $199,051,037. This represents an increase of 131 million over the revised estimate for 1949/50 which was itself in excess of the approved estimate. A large part of the increase is, however, accounted for by the much more extensive programme under Public Works Non-Recurrent which is to cost some 8 million more than last year. In addition to this it has been necessary to provide for equipment costing nearly 31 million under Public Works Department Special Expenditure, and for an additional $4 million under Public Works Recurrent. There has also been an increase on the Police vote of 3 million, so it will be seen that economies have been effected in other directions.
