Your savingram No. 81 of 19th January.

Supplementary provisions 1948-49.

With regard to the point raised in your paragraphs 2 and 3 I agree with the view expressed by the irector of Audit that paragraph 3 (a) (11) of my despatch No. 302 of 24th September 1948 should be interpreted as requiring that all additional expenditure in excess of the provision made in the approved estimates should be referred to me if the limits set out in my despatch are exceeded. To avoid unnecessary reference however I am now prepared to agree that, where & supplementary provision has been referred to me under the terms of paragraph 3 (a) (11) or my despatch No. 302 of 24th September 1948 and has received my approval, no further reference need be made to me provided the additional expenditure does not exceed the approved supplementery provision by more then 10%.

2.

You have my covering approval for the further supplementary provision of #250,000 in addition to the supplementary provision of £1,000,000 authorised in my savingram No. 371 of 11th April, 1949, mude under Head 34 subhead 20 in the 1948/49 account.
