Miscellaneous Services - Cost of Living Allowances.
Finance Committee has approved a supplementary
provision of $2,220,000 for Head 22 Sub-head 5 in the 1950/51 estimates and I seek your covering approval in accordance with the terms of your despatch No.302 of 25th September 1948.

This supplementary provision was required to meet an anticipated excess on the Cost of Living subhead occasioned by :-
(a) revision of the salaries of certain officers such as
the health inspectorate, with consequent increases in the rate of allowance paid;
(b) increases in staff on both the monthly and daily
rated establishment;
(c) increase in the allowance itself from 1.1.50 which
upset still further an estimate normally difficult to forecast.
