From the ICFTU, the front of true democratic labour movement in Hong Kong is gathering power and strength and drawing ever- increasing number of members not only from those liberty-loving bona-fide workers but also from those who have already been trapped or forced into the Communist-controlled workers' asso- ciations from which more and more members are being detached by the influence of our healthy and sound growth.

Naturally, the expansion of our organisation is bound to be attended by the increase of our obstacles; the Communist impulse of jealousy and hostility to our full fledgling will drive them to intensify their attack on us; the employers' dis- satisfaction and opposition to our growing unity will lead to the enhancement of their pressure on us.

Furthermore, we have bitterly experienced that we are not so enjoying the protection of officially established and published regulations and agreements as we should have expected, to overcome our obstacles depends mainly upon the unity among our workers and our co-operation with our international friends.

Presently, in our lonely battle against overwhelming odds, threatening the starvation of our member workers and the offensive of Communist agitators, this UC and our workers' representatives are earnestly and anxiously looking forward to moral and material support from you, because we want to raise the morale of our workers by showing them that the liberty- loving workers in other parts of the world, together with the T. U. C. are on our side and to warn our many oppressors that

the front of our donocratic labour movement never lacks rein- forcement and is not to be holding out alone,

Therefore, for the hopeless privation of our discharged workers, from you we are expecting moral and some material or financial assistance, (no matter how small the value and amount it may be as we reckon that your help will fully and signifi- cantly exemplify our au-operation' with international democratic trade unionisto to higher up the morale of our workers in Hong- Kong and to symbolize the T.U.C. influence in Hongkong to warn and antagonize our oppressors,

Waiting eagerly for your carly and favourable reply,

Mr. H. Vincent Tewson, C.B.E.,M.C.

General Secretary,

Trade Union Congress,
