Those figures were taken at random from the factory's books and they bear out the statements of certain women workers who have been interviewed by the Commissioner of Labour. The lowest daily earnings of any worker in July were 7 to 30 cents, representing 2 to 3 hours work.

It has been alleged that the closure of the factory has been quod by the Communist controlled newspapers as propugalia against the I.C.F.T.U. but we are informed that a perusal of the local press does not bear this out.

Apart from the basic misconception which lies behind the Hang Dong and Kowloon Trade Union Council's attitude, the tone of this 'appeal' may to some extent be attributable wo understand to the anxiety of the local leaders to stress the activity of their organisation and its international connections.

Yours sincerely, sincerely,
