Unofficial Members may be expected to take a firm stand on this matter and they propose to raise it with Mr. Rees Williams during his forthcoming visit. I would therefore suggest that he should be fully briefed upon the question of outstnading claims arising from last war. (Your telegram No.1368 refers.)

It is hardly necessary for me to emphasize the serious political repercussions to which any public discussions of the attitude of H.M. Government towarde these outstanding war claims might in present circumstances give riso. I therefore trust that it may be possible for Mr. Rees Williaus to give Unofficial Members some definite assurance regarding the acceptance of these claims by E.M. Goverument. I realize that time is very short before his departure, but the question of deniai cleins has been under active consideration for 18 months.
