1. It will be seen that our long letter at (43) on the 1948 file has in (47) on the same file brought results i.e. a definite proposal for settlement of the Hong Kong Government part of these claims, which is what we pressed for in paragraph 5 of (43).

2. In (51) on the 1948 file we pointed out that the proposed settlement of Item 3 (by far the biggest item in the Kowloon-Canton Railway British Section claim) fell so far short of the amount claimed that
