Dear Sirs,
We are in receipt of your letter of the 12th instant enclosing remittance for £26,550 for account of the Chungking- Chengtu Railway being value of railway stores requisitioned in Hongkong, 1941 for military use.
As we informed you on the telephone, we have no account in the name of the Chungking-Chengtu Railway and we therefore contacted the Colonial Office and also the Chinese Government Purchasing Commission who we understand have written by air-mail to the appropriate Department of the Chinese Government in Nanking.
We are therefore holding the amount in Suspense pending a receipt of their reply, and we enclose our receipt for the amount.
