"The Hong Kong Government's claim does not, as Your Excellency will observe, include any item in respect of the furniture damaged or removed from the houses by these Chinese troops. The replacement value of such furniture has been estimated at H..$3,750,000 but the Government of Hong Kong have abstained from adding this sum to their formal claim. The Chinese authorities concernes will, it is hoped, reciprocate this generous gesture by prompt payment of the amounts actually specified."
