War Damage in Hong Kong
We are obliged to you for your letter of the 18th inst. enclosing leaflet on Hong Kong War Damage Claims. We have already received a copy of the enclosure.

The position is, of course, quite unsatisfactory from our point of
May we ask you whether we are to understand from this that no com- pensation will ever be paid for the property lost, and that we should make up our minds to write off this property completely.
We see that the Government of Hong Kong is not able to pay compensation, but we shall be glad to know whether the British Government intends to make good any such losses suffered by its nationals.
