concerning war damage losses in Hong

Kong.

The position in regard to war

damage compensation claims in Hong Kong

is set out in the letter and enclosure

Mr Buckle received from the Colonial

Secretary of that Colony. You will see

from those documents, which I am returning

to you together with Mr Buckle's

statement, that the Government of Hong

Kong recommended that no compensation should be paid for war damage and to the

circumstances I fear that no compensation

can be paid from Hong Kong Government

funds in respect of general war damage

There is, however, in this

country, the United Kingdom Private

administered of the Board of Trade, Chattels Scheme [under which United

Kingdom British subjects who were in

captivity in the Far Eastern Colonial
