You wrote to me on the 8th February about F. Buckle's representations concerning war damage
Losses in Hong Kong.
The position in regard to war damage compensation claims in Hong Kong is set out in the letter and enclosure Kr. Buckle received from the Colonial Secretary of that Colony. You will see from those
documents, which i au returning to you together with Mr. Buckle's statement, that the Government of long Kong recommended that as compensation should be paid for war damage anu in the circumstances I fear that no compensation can be paid from Hong Kong Government funds in respect of general war dame Le claims.
There is, nowever, in this country the United Kingdom Private Chattels cheme, administered by the Board of Trade, under which United Kingdom British subjects who were in captivity in the For Eastern Colonial Territories and who have returned to live permanently in the United Kin_com are eligible for limited grants from United kingdom funds to enable them
At to purchase necessary furniture and household goods. present there is no indication that this Scheme will not be operating next year when Mr. Buckle 1 due to retire, und his best cource would be to make an application for u grunt 0.1, or shortly before, nis arrival in the United
on, Kingdom on retirement al ayd providim, of course, that he intends to remkin kere permanently.
