Many thanks for your letter of 18th February reference JAC/JVN regarding the above.
We note from a recent publication of the China Association London, that the Secretary of State for the Colonies had acknowledged a pressing letter from Mr. W.J. Keswick regarding the Hong Kong claims.
Unfortunately, Mr. Creech-Jones merely apologises for the delay in investigation and promised further information at an early date but nothing seems to have happened since then. However, since this letter was dated somewhere around the 12th February it is perhaps too soon to expect very much.
Perhaps you could assist in keeping the matter before the Colonial office by getting your Member of Parliment to ask questions in the House. This of course, you will appreciate, cannot apply to your own particular claim but to war damage losses as a whole. We think you will agree, however, that any action which can be taken towards a settlement of this position one way or the other, will be for the benefit of all concerned.
We will of course, continue to keep you advised of any developments at this end.
