Dear Colonel,

You were so goo: as to say that the officers Association would look into the case of a Captain . Cidley, sometime of the .A.S.C. now in Hong Kong and who, you will see from the enclosures, has written to my Secretary of state in regard to compensation for war damage losses asking for assistance in obtaining employment in the Colony or free passages for himself and his wife to Australia or the United Kingdon.

The Mar office is not able to help Captain Gidley beyond the payment of 74. 6. 6. that has already been made to him in respect of his loss of Military kit.

As you may remember from recent correspondence concerning the war damage loss of private chattels in Hong Kong, there is no war damage compensation scheme in that Colony and the Extended Far Eastern Frivate Chattels Scheme, in this country only operate in the case or United Kinglo British subjects who nave returned to and are permanently resident in this country. In the circumstances I fear Aunt nothing more can be done about Captain (idley's war damage losses.

o fer as concerns free passager from Hong Yong to Australin or clsemiere ptain Gidley was then back to

fng Kong at public expense after the war and he is not
