There was a lookout man in the crow's nest.

The lookout man made no report prior to my

seeing the rocks.

I was satisfied with the fix off the Ninepins.

The course I set was intended to clear Chilang

Port by about 8 miles. I have made 50 eimilar voyages.

I have experienced inshore sets but never more

than 2 miles. It was impossible that night to obtain

a star time azimuth. On my visits to the bridge I

frequently checked the steering compass with the

standard compass. (Scrap Log produced in Court to

verify Compass Errors).

The ship was too close to turn to starboard.

After stranding there was 42 feet aft and 20

feet by the bridge front bulkhead.

This-

There is the first casualty with which I have

been concerned. I was going to retire on September

15th.
