and T.V. Soong, and so one of the "Soong Dynasty". A
great rival of T.V. Soong, former Finance Minister, which
post he hold from 1938 to 1944. Has been out of power
and office since early 1945. Was educated in the United
States of America and speaks excellent English.
Pai Chung-hsi
Minister of National Defence since May 1946. Was Deputy Chief of the General staff throughout the war
against Japan. A southerner, his position in his own
province of Kwangsi is very strong. He is considered
to be one of China's best strategists.

of the Executive Yuan (a position roughly corresponding
to Prime Minister) and still carlier was a powerful
