Malaya: Application for assistance fre the C. D. & l.. higher education attention.
The Committee RECEIVED the note circulated as item 10 of the agenda (1.0.0./6.20./48.).
The Committee AGREED to inform the Colonial University Granta Advisory Committee that:
(m) they had considered the aplications from Malaya and Hong Kong and advised that first priority should be given to capital expenditure on behalf of the Malayan scheme recommended in the Carr-Saunders Commission report, provided that the site for the University were made available as a free gift;
(b) they suggested that the Colonial University Grants Advisory Committee might reconsider the allocation to Far Eastern projects so as to ensure for Malɛys the maximum possible capital grant from the higher education funds, if possible of the order of £1 million;
(c) they considered that the immediate offer of a substantial contribution from C. D. & W. funde would be a great encouragement to local effort to provide the balance of £2 million capital required to implement the recommendations of the Commis÷ion's report.

University College. Ibaden: casital requirements.
The Committee RECEIVED the note circulated as
item 5 of the agenda (I.U.C./B.17./48.).
The Committee AGREED that they would require much further information about the plans before they could give their considered advice and that the architects should be invited to meet them at their péxt meeting.
The Committee AGREED to advise the Colonial University Grants Advisory pómmittee that -
(a) the capital expenditure on staff housing $171,250 and $204,518) should be provided on a loan basis and not by an outright grant;
(b) On
ini'ormation before them, the general eatiɛate scened to be on sound lines for the academic requirements of the College, but there were various items on which Micy had some comment to offer:-
(1) Assembly Hall - could not this be post- poned or made an object of private benefaction?
