The Under Secretary of Stata.
22.1.47.
3. Subsequently, in January we were instructed that the Hong Kong Telephone Co.Ltd., now again in operation, had decided to place its affairs, as before the war, in the hands of the London Office of the Oriental Telephone & Electric Co.Ltd. We accordingly handed over all orders in hand to them on the 17th January, 1947.
4. An Engine-alternator set forming part of this order and for which a sub-order was placed by Siemens Bros. & Co.Ltd., is now ready and awaiting inspection and approval for shipment. Notification of this was received by us and passed on to the Oriental Telephone & Electric Co.Ltd., and we have since received a letter from Siemens containing the following statement:-
"we have now received a letter from Oriental Telephone & Mectric Co.Ltd., to whom you forwarded our letter, advising us they have been informed that the Hong Kong Telephone Company were not responsible for placing the order for the equipment in question and that they do not require any part of it.
We have obtained from the Secretary of the Oriental Telephone & Electric Co.Ltd., confirmation that they wrote this to Messrs. Siemens Bros. & Co.Ltd.
5.
We shall be glad to receive in due course your instructions concerning any further action you wish us to take in this matter. We are sending this letter in triplicate to facilitate any action you may wish to take.
We are, sir,
Your obedient Servants,
PREECE CARDEW & RIDER
