before full details are available for the Kowloon Main extension and we seek your assurance that no objection will be taken to accept such for despatch to destination as and when it becomes ready. On our part we will, when engineering the Kowloon exta. sion, incorporate therein, as far as possible, any equipment which may have been despatched under the Rehabilitation order.
In regard to the M.G. sets, power board, ringer
panel, ringing machines, rectifier and
engine set, we are letting the menufacture take its course in view of your letter of the 6th ultimo stating that this equipment would be required in any case.
In conclusion we beg to state that we are
wholeheartedly anxious to help you in this metter, but you will appreciate the diffioul- ties of the present situation and will agree the reasonable-ness of our attitude.
H
We notified this to Major Sherry in an air mail letter dated 8th October, 1945, and received reply in letter dated 5th November, 1945, as under:-
"Regard ng the equipment which may happen to
be ready before full details are available for the Kowloon Main extension, it would have been useful to us if Simens hnd indicated just how far the work had pro- gressed. we are still without any engineering information from them on the 2900 line auto equipment.
In regard to the M.G. sets and Power Board, if
these sets are simil er in size to those referred to in pærag 29 and 49 of their report No.D.G.110, Issue No.3, May 1939, they will be required, but if they are smaller sets simply to give the lower output necessary for 2900 lines they will be useless to us as the 2900 lines will not be installed as a separately operating unit. Ringer panel and ringing machines are not required as we have now in operation the ringing machines supplied under Report No. D.G.110. Similarly with the rectifier and engine set, as supply from the Power Company is now available, and in my ouse we have suitable Diesels already installed in our existing main exchanges at Central and Kowloon.
Major Sherry is hoping to get an air passage
in about a week's time and will personally disouss these matters with Siemens. He hes to return to Hong Kong as soon as his business is concluded and would appreciate anything they may be able to do in advance to expedite metters.
