"The Honourable Mr. T. N. Chau, "Chairman,

"The Hotel Advisory Committee, "8, Queen's Road West.

11 Sir,

" 18th August, 1948

I have been instructed by the Hong Kong and Kowloon Hotels

" and Boarding Houses Association to act for all hotels and boarding

" houses concerning the Price Control (Hotels Services) Regulations

" 1948.

11

Mr. H. G. Sheldon, K.C. and the Honourable Leo D'Almada,

"K.C. have been retained as Counsel for the Association and have

" been consulted for advice herein.

11

I enclose copies of two letters dated the 14th and the

" 17th instant addressed by me to the Honourable The Colonial

"Secretary, which speaks for themselves, for your perusal and

"notation.

#1

Since writing the letter of the 14th instant to the Hon.

"The Colonial Secretary, I was handed some of the circular letters

"sent out by you to various hotels listed in membership in the

" Association.

11

The Association notes with some gratification that your

"circular letters indicate that your Committee intends to approach

"the inquiry from the perspective of hotels and boarding houses

" being businesses entitled to a reasonable percentage of profits;

again, that there is partial recognition of the fact that the

" business of hotels and boarding houses is primarily and funda-

"mentally for the accommodation of transients.

#t

You will appreciate the anxiety of the Association which

" leads to the instructions given to me to inquire of you very

respectfully as to the composition, appointment and terms of

" reference of your Committee.

You will appreciate again the further respectful comment

12.
