Dear Sargent Roberts,

Will you please refer to Mayle's interim reply of the 17th December 1947 to your letter to him of the 16th December on the subject of the liability of Colonial Allowance to income tax in Hong Kong#

You will be glad to learn that the Hong Kong Government have now agreed that Colonial Allowances paid to temporary officers of the Admiralty stationed in Hong Kong should not be subject to local taxation. The necessary administrative action to give effect to this decision is already being taken. I enclose a copy of the relevant Savingram from Hong Kong - No. 182 of the 18th March. I am sending copies of this letter and enclosure to the Treasury, war office and Air Ministry.

E. SARGENT ROBERTS, ESQ.

Yours sincerely,

(J.B. Sidebotham.)
