In order to ascertain that portion of an annuity which constitutes "a return of capital" for the purpose of Section 10(3)(c) of the Inland Revenue Ordinance - 1947
1947, it is necessary to have up-to-date information as to the expectation of life of annuitants.
The latest British tables obtainable in the Colony are dated 1888; it is clear that modern health services have rendered such tables obsolete. The 1937 standard annuity tables of the Actuarial Society of America are available, but it is felt that British tables would be preferable. I should therefore be glad to learn what, if any, modern British tables can be obtained.
