In order to save time, we have gone ahead and applied

to the Treasury for a Colonial Development and Welfare

grant to cover expenses in connection with your visit

on the basis of a fee of 750 guineas plus subsistence

allowance at the above rate. I should be most grateful

if you would kindly confirm that this arrangement

would be satisfactory from your point of view. I will

let you know as soon as we have the Treasury reply to

our application.

quite understand the point of your suggestion that

the phrase "to outline plans for this purpose" should

more properly read "to outline general plans for this

purpose". We see no reason to suppose that your

suggestion will not be entirely acceptable to

Sir Alexander Grantham; and I am sending him copies

of this correspondence so that he will be quite au fait

with developments.
