August, 1947.

In your letter of the 8th July,

you suggested 750 guineas as the fee for

your visit to Hong Kong of 6 weeks later on

this year, and that in addition hotel

accommodation should be included in your

expenses.

On this latter point I find

that it is not the practice for us

cover the actual cost of hotel accommodation

in the case of such visits, but it is

whilst actually in the colony, a subsis-

and

tence allowance at rates in accordance

with conditions laid down by the Treasury

for visitors abroad generally.

In the

case of Hong Kong the allowance is at the

a night rate of 25/- per nåetem, but if official

hospitality were extended to you for any

part of the visit a reduction by two thirds

would be necessary. No allowances are

payable en route where the fare covers

cost of accommodation, meals, etc. I trust

you will consider this arrangement
