EVIDENCE OF HAROLD TIPLADY - DIVISIONAL OFFICER, H.K. FIRE BRIG ADE - SWORN.

My name is Harold Tiplady and I am a Divisional

officer in the Hong Kong Fire Brigade.

The station

44

received the first call at 7.15 P.M. I went with the

fire appliance and reached the "Kwong Tung" at about

7.17 to 7.18 P.M. A fire float also proceeded to the

scene of the fire. When I arrived the pier was very

congested. After giving instructions for ambulances and

went further police assistance I akka on board. I had great

difficulty in getting on board due to persons trying to

which leave the vessel white was considerably aggravated by people

carrying their baggage on bamboo poles.

The first thing I saw were two members of the crew

who with the ship's hose had actually extinguished the

fire. Smoke had obviously added to the confusion. I no-

ticed a European police Inspector helping people from the sea near the port after gangway.

The foregoing is a true record

of the evidence I have given.

Sd. Haroid Tiplady.
