Dear Mayle,

RECEIVEL

FOREIGN OFFICE, S.W2-SEP 1947

29th August, 1947. REGY

521296/47

Would you please refer to the Foreign Office letter F 9549/410/10 of the 6th August 1947 regarding the registration of "China Companies" at Hong Kong and the future operation of British companies in China. We feel it is desirable to reach a deci sion as soon as possible on the question of the date to be specified under Article 4(2) of the China Order in Council, 1943, leaving those points raised in paragraph 3 of our letter for future decision.

2.

You will note that the 30th September 1947 has been suggested as the date to be specified, and that it is proposed to publish a notice in the London Gazette specifying this date. The Board of Trade have no objection to the publication of this notice and I would be grateful for your early confirmation that you, too, have no objection.

Yours sincerely,

Auscott

(A.L. Scott)

N.L. Mayle, Esq.

Colonial Office.
