Dear Scott,

Great Smith street,
S.W.1.
25th September, 1947.
with reference to your letter of
29th August regarding the registration of China Companies in Hong Kong, you will have since received a copy of Hong Kong telegram No.1394, suggesting the 31st December as a more suitable date than 30th September to be specified under Article No.2 of the China Order in Council. We had previously consulted the China Association, who had accepted the earlier date as suitable, and who would, therefore, we think, also accept the later date. In these circumstances we can see no objection to the 31st December as being "specified date".
2.
I understand that you do not consider it essential that an early decision should also be reached on the other matters referred to in Shanghai despatch of 9th June, 1947. We are awaiting the views of the China Association on these matters and I will write to you again when these are received.
3.
I am sending a copy of this letter
to the Board of Trade.
Yours sincerely,
Sid. (N.L. Mayle)
