contained in an instrument signed by their delegate in the name of the I.R.C.C., is not really theirs, nor the British Red Cross Society's, but H.K. Government's seeing that the scheme was run for the relief of the "dependents" out of funds supplied by H.M. Government.
Attention is drawn, furthermore, to the fact that whereas the "Rosary Hill Home" was used for the said purpose from about September 1943 until October 1945, it had served as a Military Hospital during the hostilities in Hongkong in December 1941. In October 1945, the Home was taken over by the British Military Administration and subsequently requi- sitioned in December for the accommodation of civilian repatriates and destitute persons.
Mr. Zindel endeavoured already in the autumn of 1945 and again later, after his visit to Europe, to come to some arrangement with the owners, but without success. He has now left Hongkong and is thus no longer in a position to intervene directly towards a settlement in this matter.
The Committee feel, therefore, that only H. M. Government can now effectively deal with this question; they will, of course, be glad to help if further information is required.
I shall be very glad to hear from you and to pass on to my Headquarters in Geneva any communication you may wish me to convey to them.
