Damage to Convent in Hong Kong
I am writing to acknowledge your letter of the 13th (17)
April, 1949, relating to the occupation of the Convent of St. Albert the Great in Hong Kong as a military hospital.
It appears that the War Department may be liable for a proportion of the damage in respect of the short period of military occupation and we are therefore asking our representatives in the Far East to investigate. In the event of War Department liability being established, the actual amount is likely to be
so small that settlement will be within the Local financial powers.
