Method of calculation of Leave Reserve for Administrative Officers.

Factors to be taken into account:

Average age of entry:

24 (i. e. date of selection).

First Course of Training:

15 months.

Average age on arrival in Colony:

25 years, 123 days.

Long leave:

One day in seven up till the age of 45 years and 20 years service, granted after a tour of four years. Thereafter 2 days in 11, granted after a tour of three years.

Average time taken for one passage to and from U.K.:

Local leave:

32 days.

15 days in any one year.

Language study:

Two years from first arrival in Colony.

Second course of training:

Seven months once in the course of service.

Sabbatical leave:

Omitted from calculation because instructions have not yet been received. May be up to 2 years once in the course of service for selected officers.

Sick leave:

Omitted from calculation because prewar statistical records have been lost.

Compulsory retirement Age:

55 years.

Earliest Age at which General Order 197 (10) (b) may operate to make it advantageous for an officer to apply for the Governor's consent to retire- ment under section 8 (b) of the Pensions Ordinance, No. 21 of 1932:

52 years, 240 days.

Average age on leaving service (ignoring premature retirement on medical ground, tranfers and dismissals):

53 years 303 days.
