representations.

Letters in almost identical terms have recently

been sent by several members of the Hong Kong Police

Inspectorate to their M.P.'s on the subject of the

recognition of their previous police service. The

officers concerned are Messrs. M. Saul, R. Brown,

L. Winch and J.D. Brawn.

I attach a copy of the text of their letters and

also copies of the replies which have been sent to the

M.P.'s concerned. I should be grateful for your

observations on the two points which are referred to

in the final paragraph of each of these replies.

3. All four officers attached to their letters to

M.P.'s copies of Colonial Secretary's' letter of 4th

March, 1948 (reference 5/1681/47C), which is based

on terms of my despatch No. 46 of 17th February.

In fact, paragraph 4 of Colonial Secretary's letter,

which deals with pension rights and quoted paragraph

quote

4 of my despatch, does not of course apply to

ex-Metropolitan Police, but only to ex-County and

ex-Borough Police. I note that Saul, Brown and

Winch are ex-Metropolitan Police and, as regards their

pension position, may, therefore, be under some
