FURTHER ACTION.
lf. to Governor,
Hong Kong
ref. (20)
about in representations made by
(1) Mr. J.D. Brawn, a Sub Inspector
(2) Mr. L. Winch, a Sub Inspector
(3) Mr. M. Saul and Mr. R. Brown Sub Inspectors
of the Hong Kong Police? The Governor of
Hong Kong's comments on the two points mentioned in
the last paragraph of my letter have now been received
and I am able to give you the further information
promised.
So far as recognition of previous service is
concerned I can now assure you that there is nothing
in the Hong Kong Salaries Commission Report to
prevent (to 1) Mr. Brawn's
(to 2) Mr. Winch's
(to 3 these officers'
police service in Hong Kong prior to 1.1.47 being
recognised and it is in fact recognised.
The remaining point concerned certain
apprehensions which (to 1) Mr. Brawn
(to 2) Mr. Winch
(to 3) Mr. Saul and Mr. Brown
felt about the new age of retirement. It is true
that the decision has now been taken that for an
experimental period of three years, which is liable
to be extended, the Hong Kong Government shall have
the right to require an officer to retire at the
age
