My despatch No.46 of 17th February,1948.
position
Pension rights of Police Inspectors.
recruited from United Kingdom County and
Borough Police Forces.
I regret that the Home Office have
finally stated that they are not prepared to .
propose to the County and Borough police
authorities concerned that the men recruited
from their forces for the Hong Kong Police
should be regarded as on secondment.
The Home Office do not feel that these
men have any justifiable grievance since it
was made quite clear to them at the time when
they applied to join the Hong Kong Police Force
that the conditions of service involved their
resignation from their former police forces.
It is thought unreasonable to try to pretend
now that the men did not retire at all and
to regard them as seconded from the outset.
there lone
It must, I fear, now be accepted that the
must,
question of the preservation of the Home
elaine
pension rights of these men can be pursued
no further.
