of the matter is being satisfactorily resolved. Revised letters of appointment are being (or by now probably have been) issued to these officers. on the basis that there are three categories of appointment, namely
(a) those officers who were recruited from
the Metropolitan police;
(b) those cases where the officers resigned
from the Home force and definitely
severed their connection with the Home
police and thereby forfeited such pension
rights as they may have acquired in the United Kingdom, other than a refund of
contributions; and
(c) cases where an officer is on secondment to
Hong Kong by special arrangement with
the Home police authority.
No doubt this accounts for the fact that the
petition has not yet reached us, since much of it will already have been disposed of locally. On the question of the prospects of promotion, seniority and pay, I think
only,
I can say naman that these matters will be considered most thoroughly and carefully when we are in
a position to study both the petitioners' recommendations
and the Governor's comments on them.
