Your staff despatch No. 118 of 7th October.
Registrar of Co-operatives.
This
It is proposed to interview both Harper (my telegram No. 1588 refers) and Eustace in connection with this post. I notice, however, that the salary scale you havs proposed for the post (£520 £1,050) does not vary much from that proposed in the salaries Commission Report for the post of Assistant Co-operatives officer (s400 · £1,100). seems unlikely to attract man of the calibre and experience of Harper and Eustace. Harper is older than Eustace and both men are perhaps older than the type you had in mind. But we are, I think, fortunate in having such men interested. You may therefore like to raconsider proposal in paragraph 2 of my despatch No. 247 of 1st August that post should be graded level with Director Fisheries, i.4. on salary of £1,200
£1,400.
Grateful for early reply, as proposed interview
is to take place on 21st November.
