Dear Surridge,
We are in some difficulty over the fact that Mr. R.K. Harper has declined to be our Registrar of Cooperatives for Hong Kong and has entered the Church of England instead.
Our only reserve seems to be
·
Mr. J.3.A. Bazalgette, another ex-1.0.3. man whose file bears favourable comments Prom you, and whom we now understand to be available. He has therefore been approached on the basis of a salary of £1,400 p.a. agreement for three years and if he proves suitable and is interested, I hope that you will have no objection to an offer being made to him.
As there is a strong chance that this may fall by the wayside, however, I should be grateful to know whether you have any alternative candidates in mind, and what course of action you would like us to pursue until you come back.
Hoping that you are having a pleasant tour,
Yours sincerely,
B.J. SURRIDGE, ESQ., 0.B.E.
