I attach a letter received this
morning from Dr. Herklots showing the
staff of the Hong Kong Fisheries Department I gather from this and from what was said at the meeting which we attended in Mr. Hickling's room on Saturday morning that Dr. Herklots does not recommend any additional staff and that therefore the only post on which we have to seek Treasury approval is that of the Director, this post having previously been held by Dr. Herklots himself in an honorary capacit;
We must I think consult Sir Mark Young before asking the Treasury to approve a sulury on a scale up to £1,200. The matter has already been mentioned to him in
generul terms. doing a draft.
