I have the honour to refer to my despatch No. 176 of
14th November, 1946, which was forwarded in response to your circular
telegram saving of 20th May, 1946, and to report further on the subject *
of the Development Committee which has been set up in accordance with
the terms of paragraph 14 of your circular despatch of 12th November,
1945.

Mr. Ng Chak Wa has been compelled to resign owing, to ill-.
health and I have recently appointed, on the recommendation of the
Chairman, the following four gentlemen to serve on the Committee:-
Official Member
Wing Commander S. E. Faber, A.F.C.,
(Director of Building Rehabilitation).

Unofficial Members.
Dr. A. M. Rodrigues, a prominent member
of the Portuguese community.
Mir. Kwok Chan, Vice Chairman, Chinese Chamber of Commerce
Mr. Dhun Ruttonjes,
of Dhun Ruttonjes & Company,
Merchants and Manufacturers Agents.
Five sub-committees, each under the chairma nship of a member
of the main Committee have been set up to consider the following aspects
of the Colony's development :-
(1)
Housing and Town Planning -
(2)
Port Development.
(3)
Public Health.
(4)
Natural Resources.
(5)
Welfare.
A sixth sub-committee to deal with educationml matters will shortly be
formed.
