Chief Internal Events Reported.

(a) Canton City is to become a municipality directly under the Execu- tive Yuan. Hainan is to have a provincial government of its own. (Wah Kiu Yat Po, 24/3).

(b) The R.A.F. Dakota which "landed by mistake" at Canton has been released from detention, reports the Wah Kiu Yat Po on 23/3. On 29/3 the same paper publishes a solemn warning that such infringements will result in future, in offending planes being shot down.

(c) The Hong Kong Police are active against the terrorist activities of the "Oversea Youth Action Partyil. (Wah Kiu Yat Po, 24/3). Co-operation is being extended the Hong Kong and Canton Police. Ying Evening News, 26/3).

Chung

(a) The "New Life Evening News" of 25/3, confidently predicts the return to China by the Hong Kong Government of the two members of the Peace Preservation Corps held on charges of armed assault, when it is established that the men held are members of the Chinese armed forces. The "Sing Tao Jih Pao" of 28/3 reports that Mr. T. W. Kwok's office is still pursuing

the matter.

(e) The "Kung Sheung Daily Press" of 26/3 reports that the Chinese Maritime Customs will be permitted to operate in Hong Kong territory.

(f) The "Kung Sheung Daily Press" of 27/3 reports that capital has been drifting from Hong Kong to China. The Hong Kong Financial Secretary wishes to introduce some control of remittances to China.

(g) The "Wah Kiu Yat Po" of 28/3 reports that Chiang Kai Shek is to visit the United States in the near future.
