Chief Internal Events Reported.
(a) The new Taiwan Provincial Government is instructed to aim at eventual self-government for the Taiwanese. (Wah Kiu Yat Po, 30/4).
(0) The Canton Press continues to carry news of proposals and preliminary survey for extensive civil engineering works costing thousands of millions in National Currency. Repair of 10,000 kilometers of roads in Kwangtung (Tai Kwong Pao, 25/4), hydro electric plant at Ping Tan in Yang Chun, $1,100,000.
(Chung Shan Jih Pao, 1/5).
(c) The Ma On Dam, near Waichow, has been opened to irrigate about 100,000 acres. (This seems to be the first major project to be completed in South China since the Japanese surrender). (Chien Kuo Jih Pao, Canton, 25/4).
(a) An aircraft repair works is to be set up in Taiwan. (Shang Pao, Canton, 1/5).
(0) Chinese males between the ages of 20 and 25 are not to be allowed to leave China unless they have previously lived abroad. This is to prevent evasion of military service. (Shang Pao, Canton, 27/4).

Comments on Internal Events.
(a) "Wah Kiu Yat Po" of 2/5, commenting on the Chinese proposed price control, shows how mere palliatives are useless and that cessation of the Civil War is a first essential towards stability.
(b) "Sing Pao" suggests what is in effect forcible aquisition of overseas gold dollar credits belonging to Chinese nationals in China as a means of financing China's trade.
(c) The "National Times" of 3/5 urges investment by overseas Chinese of their capital in the development of China's
