Assuming that the reconditioning of Number 4 Set is not proceeded with then it is essential that Number 5 Turbo Alternator Set (which was removed by the Japanese) be re-erected on its existing foundations - so far as can be at present ascertained all components are believed to be available in the Colony and the main items have already been transferred back to the Power Station.

Arrangements have already been made to obtain the services of a skilled Erector in connection with the rehabilit- ation of Number 8 Turbo Alternator Set which is likely to be out of commission for at least 8 or 9 months. As the Erector should arrive in this country within the next few weeks it is proposed to utilise his services in the re-erection of Number 5 set should this course be ultimately decided upon as essential to provide adequate stndby plant. In this even the cost of the Erector's services during the time he is engaged upon the re-erection of Number 5 Set becomes chargeable to C.A.A. to- gether with a proportion of his fares and expenses in the general rehabilitation and maintenance of the Set, otherwise the charges will be met by the Hongkong Electric Company.

No. 3 Turbo Alternator Set. This Set has not yet been opened up but it is not anticipated that when examination is made any serious defects will be disclosed and therefore it is expeated that only normal running spares and general maintenance will be required.

No. 2 Turbo Alternator Set. The condition of this Set is generally similar to that of Number 3 and the same observ- ations apply.

No. 6 Turbo Alternator Set. This Set has been removed by the Japanese and it is agreed that the Company have no claim under these terms of reference.

Auxiliary Turbo Generators. The Auxiliary D.C. Turbo Generators appear to be in satisfactory running condition and the provision of normal running maintenance is all that should be necessary.

FEED WATER SYSTEM, FEED PUMPS ETC.

Two new feed water tanks are required to replace others removed by the Japanese without which an adequate supply of evaporated water cannot be maintained.

Certain Boiler Feed Pumps have been removed by the Japanese but it is agreed that the remaining pumps are of ample capacity to meet the requirements envisaged.

The P. & B" evaporating plant installed beyond the old Turbine Room has not been examined in detail but in any case it is not connected up to the system at the present time and the Company do not wish that it should be considered as a C.A.A liability although under certain operating conditions this may have undesirable effects.

BOILERS.

No.14 Boiler. This Boiler has been overhauled and is in satisfactory condition with the exception of certain instruments which need to be overhauled and/or replaced. The liability for this work and also for normal running spares does not attach to the Hongkong Electric Company.

No.13 Boiler. The conditions referred to above apply.

No.12 Boiler. This Boiler is out of commission and is
